Less than halfway through 2024, Capri Easterday ’25, Entertainment Design, has already had an illustrious year. The junior at ݮƵ College of Art and Design was awarded first place and honorable mention, respectively, in two prestigious national design competitions. She was also chosen as ݮƵ College’s 2024-25 Trustee Scholar for Student Life.

Most notably, Easterday won first place in the, which this year challenged entrants to design a comfortable, engaging light fixture for pediatric clinic waiting rooms. Easterday’s Wave design was chosen out of more than 180 national submissions, the most ever received in the competition’s 21-year history.

Wave, a ceiling-mounted light fixture that curves 90 degrees to sit flush against the upper wall, creates a sense of fluidity and playfulness that extends beyond the fixture itself via LED beams. The piece is built from recycled plastic and aluminum.

Capri Easterday ’25, Entertainment Design, took home two prizes for her designs.

“The quality of light, energy use, maintenance, personality, and installation of the fixture all had to be considered,” said Easterday, adding that her Wave form was designed “to fluidly flow from the ceiling to the wall like a waterfall.”

Additionally, Easterday received an honorable mention in the 2024 Formica FORM Competition, which tasked students with creating a piece of furniture that demonstrated a retro-modern “Newstalgia” aesthetic, while using Formica Brand products. This year’s competition garnered 190 submissions, with Easterday placing in the top 10.

And now, Easterday will head into her senior year as ݮƵ Trustee Scholar for Student Life, the College’s highest scholarship honor, in recognition of her exceptional creative talent, communication skills, leadership, citizenship, and mentorship.
